Weymouth & Portland RFC
Wimborne RFC

There were 7 changes from the team that lost to Swans 2nds last week with Skipper Dan still out with his knee injury.

  • Andy was back after injury replacing Chris (N) (unavailable) at No.8;
  • Sanks replaced James (unavailable) at Hooker;
  • Chinny replaced Kevin (unavailable) at Flanker;
  • Ian replaced Chris (H) (unavailable) at Second Row;
  • Tom replaced Luc (on the bench) at Centre;
  • Adam replaced Carl (unavailable ) on the Wing;
  • Ryan replaced Smudge (injured) on the bench.

We started the better of the 2 teams and it wasn’t long before Norton was going close to scoring again after last week’s brace of tries.  First he was bundled into touch on the 5m line and then after some skilful footwork and pick up of the ball he was pulled down just short of the line.  Amazingly after only two visits into our half the visitors were 2 tries and 14 points up with only a quarter of an hour played.  For the remainder of the half it was even stevens until the last play when we were awarded a penalty on half way which Alex kicked into the right hand corner.  What followed was a perfectly executed planned move after the forwards had first won the ball and fed Lewis (A) who passed to Alex with Norton coming into the line from the blind side wing.  Alex then uses Norton and Luke as decoys and sends out a long pass to Tom who has Lewis (R) outside of him, who then passes to Adam with enough space for the left wing to go outside his opposite number and touch down wide out.  Alex stepped up and slotted over the conversion with apparent ease.  With the conversion ending the first half our tails were up and we confidently looked forward to the second half.

Josh replaced Neil at half time with Andy moving up into the front row but unfortunately with the break came the rain and despite both sides wanting to play open rugby, it wasn’t to be and it was Wimborne who adapted best to the slippery conditions and played on our mistakes to run in 2 converted tries and run out winners in a hard fought match.

It is hoped that Dan will be recovered in 2 weeks time when we entertain Bridport who have won there first match and lost the second.
